Colby Community Church
A Guided Liturgy For Home Worship
April 5th, 2020
During this time of physical isolation we offer this outline for use at home with your family, as a way to continue to worship and be formed in Christ. Any of these sections can be led by whoever feels able, and it may be fun to have different people lead different readings or in prayer!
Tips To Get Started:
1. This service will take around 45-60 minutes
2. To begin, browse this outline and quickly assign who will read what.
3. Lyrics for the songs are in the YouTube videos or you can pull up the lyrics by searching in Google. You can also find these songs on our Spotify playlists by searching “colbyworship” on Spotify.
4. Get your coffee, Bible, and notepad. Take a deep breath. Breathe again!
5. Begin – anticipating Christ’s presence!
The Gathering of the Community
Opening Prayer
Loving God,
The author and foundation of our hope.
Help us to rely with confident expectation on your promises,
Knowing that the trials and obstacles in front of us today,
Are not worthy of being compared with the glory that will be revealed.
Keep our eyes firmly set on you.
Keep our hearts firmly grounded in your faithfulness.
May all of our hearts be open to hearing from you today.
By your Spirit, we ask that you would make us into “doers of the Word” and not merely hearers.
Amen.
Song: Prepare Ye The Way – Michael W. Smith
Reading: Psalm 116
Reader:
1 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
2 Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“Lord, save me!”
5 The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
6 The Lord protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.
8 For you, Lord, have delivered me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,
9 that I may walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.

The Proclamation of the Word
Scripture Readings:
Philippians 2:5-11
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Matthew 21:1-11
1As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5 “Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Reflection: Isaiah 50:4-11. Palm Sunday.

Benediction:
Colby Community Church,
This Holy Week,
may God in his infinite mercy
grant you a journey
of renewal and hope;
a time of prayer and reflection;
And joyful anticipation
of our Lord’s resurrection.
May you live and serve this week in remembrance of Christ’s love.
We pray in the name of the Father,
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
